Heavy storms are predicted today, so please try to make sure you’re prepared before they move through. Keep an eye on the weather, charge your phone, and have a plan if warnings are issued.
If you’re at home:
Move to a basement, storm shelter, or small interior room on the lowest level, away from windows
Keep sturdy shoes, a flashlight or battery-powered lantern, medications, keys, wallet, and a charged phone nearby
Bring pets into your shelter area early if you can, and keep leashes or carriers close
Use a blanket, pillow, or bike helmet to help protect your head and neck if conditions worsen
If you’re in your vehicle:
Do not try to outrun a tornado. Get to a sturdy building if you safely can
Do not shelter under an overpass or bridge
If you cannot reach a building, get low, buckle up, and cover your head and neck, or move to a nearby low-lying area only if it is clearly safer
If large hail starts, slow down, turn on your lights, and pull over somewhere safe, away from trees, power lines, and flood-prone areas
Never drive through flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown
