The library’s 250 Books Celebration is a great reason to stop in, get a library card, and make the most of what our libraries offer.
I loved going to the library as a kid. With a library card, it felt like the doors to a million worlds opened up and fed my imagination. As I got older, more and more of my reading focused on school requirements, professional topics, and building my leadership skills.
Then, a few years ago, a friend gave me a book for Christmas. It was one of her favorites, and I realized I could not remember the last book I had read just for pleasure. So I read it, and it reminded me how much I loved books and stories.
Not long after, I discovered the Libby app. With a library card, you can borrow books, e-books, and audiobooks from your phone or tablet just like you can by going into a branch. And if you have a library card from another library too, you can add it in Libby and take advantage of even more electronic resources.
I’ve been hooked ever since. ✨💚📖🎧
This has become such an easy way to fit more reading into everyday life, whether you prefer physical books, e-books, or audiobooks. Since then, I’ve read over 300 books, and my only rule is that I do not research them first. If someone recommends a book, I read it, regardless of the genre, topic, or author. I have discovered so many unexpected stories that way. Have I loved every single one? No. But I’m very glad I did not miss the ones I might never have picked up otherwise.
With the library’s 250 Books Celebration continuing through the end of 2026, I’d encourage you, if you’ve been meaning to read more, this is a great time to start. Pick up a book, try an audiobook, and enjoy one of the best community resources we have: our libraries.
And if you’d like a few recommendations from me, here are some I’m really glad I read:
📖 The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh
🎧 The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
📖 The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
🕮 The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros
📖 Bicycling with Butterflies by Sara Dykman
🎧 The Briar Club by Kate Quinn
🎧 Go as a River by Shelly Read
