🗳️ August Election 101: Choosing a Ballot
For Missouri’s August 4 Primary Election, voters will be asked which ballot they want to vote.
You do not have to be registered with a political party to choose a party ballot.
In August, voters may choose one ballot type:
âś… Republican
âś… Democratic
âś… Libertarian
âś… Nonpartisan/issues-only
Because this is a primary election, you cannot vote across multiple party ballots.
For example, if you want to vote for a Republican candidate for one office and a Democratic candidate for another office, you will need to decide which race is most important to you and choose that party’s ballot.
Once you choose a ballot, you do not have to vote in every race. If you choose a party ballot because there is one candidate you want to help move forward, you may leave other races blank. The votes you do cast still count.
A nonpartisan/issues-only ballot allows you to vote on ballot issues, but it does not include party candidate races.
This is one of the reasons it can be helpful to preview your ballot before you vote. A few minutes of preparation can make the process feel much easier.
